About us

Applied Electromagnetic Lab., Hokkaido University

This laboratory mainly studies electromagnetic field analysis as well as
computational intelligence. Electromagnetic field analysis allows us to
evaluate performance of electric and electronic
devices and observe electromagnetic
phenomena, which are usually invisible, by solving the Maxwell equations using
computers. In this laboratory, research targets range from motors and
transformers to antenna and RFID devices. In order to expand possibilities
in the electromagnetic field analysis, we have engaged in studies of fundamentals on analysis methods, development of high performance analysis method, optimization based on field analysis, mesh generation, visualization, material modeling, safety and reliability analysis.
In the study of computational intelligence, we have studied evolutionary optimization methods such as genetic algorithm and immune algorithm, reinforcement learning, and neurocomputing. In these studies, systems are realized by not only
software but also hardware such as FPGA.
We also make a point of cooperative works with industries because we can know
engineering issues whose solutions are required in society.
